The Kent Coffee & Chocolate Company was predicted to fail. Prior to its grand opening, the word on Main street was “Fancy coffees and chocolates? They go for that stuff in New York, but not here in Kent” and “Seven out of every ten businesses fail in their first year, how long do you think this one will last?”

On July 4, 1991, chef Sandra Champlain opened the door to the Kent Coffee & Chocolate Company. The 25 year old Culinary Institute of America graduate was ready to take the risk. Sandra had the support of her mother who simply told her “Sandra, you will never know unless you try. If you fail, so what? Go try something else.”

Guess what? July 4, 2011 marked our 20th year in business. THANK YOU for supporting us!
